Vernor Vinge: The Collected Stories, and The Peace War. I read two more books by Vernor Vinge recently. Transition by Iain Banks; Solitude by Anthony Storr, The Collected Stories of Vernor Vinge, Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives by David Eagleman, and The Tough Guide to Fantasyland by Diana Wynne Jones. So it seemed like a no-brainer to get this 2001 volume, The Collected Stories of Vernor Vinge, containing nearly every story he had published up to that time. Vernor Vinge is the author of Rainbow's End, the futuristic science fiction story featuring a university library quite prominently. The Peace War was a good read; definitely in a lower tier than his other work though. This remarkable anthology reprints Hugo winner Vinge's (The Collected Stories of Vernor Vinge) "True Names" (1981), the story that began SF's cyberpunk revolution, with 11 essays showing its effect on science as well as fiction.
